The Whopper that almost got away!

I was fishing a lake one day when I hooked onto a whopper! I was working a grassy area, so I kept the line tight to keep the fish from diving into the weeds. He fought hard, and I could tell right away he was a hawg!. Then he surfaced — bucketmouth wide open — and I knew I had a pig on the line!

The boardwalk where I stood was about 15 feet above the water, and I wasn’t sure how I’d land this lunker. I tried steering him toward the bank, but just as I got him close, the line snapped. The hog stayed laying on top of a grass bed, just out of reach. I’d lost him… but not completely. There was still a chance.

I kicked off my shoes and climbed carefully down from the boardwalk. Bit by bit, I waded closer, feeling the mud sink beneath my feet. The slob rested there, calm but still massive. I stretched as far as I could, reached out, and finally lipped the giant.

That day I risked life and limb to save a beautiful Big Bass — and I’m glad I did. It’s not every day you catch a Donkey that size. Some anglers fish their whole lives without landing a monster like that. Luckily, I got some photos as evidence of this fish tale before releasing the whopper of a bass to fight another day.
